Alcazar and Flamenco - July 5

We are delayed by slow WiFi and will add pictures later!

Jill: We had a lazy morning at the apartment and then headed out to visit Alcazar, a 10th century palace built for the governors of the local Moorish state that still functions as a royal palace, the oldest in use today. The palace and grounds were stunning! Vibrant tile work, beautiful arches, courtyards with swimming pools and intricately sculpted landings and features made it well worth seeing.

We strolled around the gardens and came upon some peacocks and at leasttwo families with little babies. The kids loved it!

We took the scenic route back to our apartment but it was the hottest day yet so we didn't last too long. A brief lunch then up to the pool for a swim. It was fun to look up to the Giralda Tower from the pool now that we had been to the top ourselves.

We decided to do a carriage ride through town. It gave us a chance to seem some sights we might have missed. Emmy loved the chance to be close to the horses and Davis caught up on some sleep. :)

The flamenco show was next at 9:00. Between the heat and the time, thekids struggled to stay awake. Todd and I loved the show which was somewhat more subdued than my impression of other shows based on the flamboyant posters we had seen around town, but in a less commercial way. It felt very authentic, and in the tiny room with about 60 people all sitting around the stage, intimate as well. The singer and dancers were accompanied by a solo guitar and it was amazing the talent these four had. The footwork was so fast and impassioned. It was a very memorable evening.

We're sitting at the airport now en route to Barcelona. We're sad to leave Sevilla and the apartment, we had such a great time and couldn't recommend it enough. If you're looking for a hotel experience, or perhaps a second honeymoon, the EME Hotel shared the building with us, also had a pool, had a front row view of the cathedral and looked very swanky.

We're feeling a bit apprehensive about going back to hotel life in Barcelona and are ready to settle in and unpack our bags. The kids are also ready to take a break from sight seeing. Just three more days and then the pace will slow!
