Jill: As it turns out there are some great advantages for not sleeping too much at night. For example, you can have a family of four showered, fed, bouncing off the walls in your hotel room and ready to hit some sights by 8:30am!
We made our way along to the Prado, discovering some charming streets and plazas along the way as well as passing some larger landmarks like Peurto Del Sol and the Westin Palace.

The Prado!

Leaving the Prado
We were among the first in line at the Prado and enjoyed so many masterful works of art. The kids were troopers, lasting about two hours, allowing us time to see most of the significant works on our guide. I've decided I'm now a fan of 16th and 17th century portraits. The detail and expressions are amazing! The kids got quite giddy by the end so we abandoned our plans to visit another museum and headed back to the hotel for a nap...5 hours!

Walking back to the hotel
We ate at the restaurant just outside the hotel and the kids were happy to have pizza and pasta, although I think they also enjoyed the calamari sandwiches and Spanish tortilla (omlette with eggs and potatoes) the night before. This was much more familiar.
Then we headed back near the Prado to visit the Jardin Botanico and the Museo Reina Sofia. We wandered along some smaller, super charming streets this time.

Gelato!

Back at the Plaza Mayor, finding our way to the hotel. :)
We fell asleep pretty late again (or early rather), but slept all the way to 4:15am. Maybe a bit earlier for Todd and later for Emmy. So now we're getting ready to hit the Royal Palace and then back to pack up and head to the train station for our next stop, Sevilla.

Glad it is gelato weather there! Jetlagged kids in the museum for 2 hours is impressive...hooray! Hope the train ride to Sevilla is fun. We'll light up some sparklers in your honor on the 4th of July ;-) xo, Angie
