Jill: With the afternoon siestas and late night dinners (getting seated around 9:00ish), our morning starts are getting later and later as well. We set out for the Picasso museum this morning around 11:30 and got tangled in the intertwined Barri Gotic neighborhood along the way. It was lots of fun to meander through the streets of and we eventually found our destination.

In search of the Picasso museum

Found it!
The Picasso museum was super interesting because it featured all of his early work, beginning from age 12! The pieces showcased his evolution from more traditional portraits, religious paintings and landscapes to his experimentation in cubism, impressionism and what you'd think of as Picasso. The last stop on the tour was a view of the 58 interpretations he had done of a famous Velasquez painting we had seen earlier at the Prado. Some of the paintings were shown and then there was a video loop which showed the original painting and then Picasso's take on the various people and components in a series of overlays. It was fascinating to watch!
We walked down toward the waterfront and then took Las Ramblas all the way from the harbor to the Placa Catalunya and our hotel. Las Ramblas is packed with people and vendors and fun to check out. The kids especially loved the outdoor pet store. I'm sure we'll be stopping by there again to catch a glimpse of the bunnies, hamsters, chipmunks and of course guinea pigs.

Las Ramblas

Not sure if you can make it out, but there are human "statue" street performers. You drop a coin in their bucket and they will move or take a picture. This one was particularly creepy!

Emmy loving the guinea pigs!
For dinner we went to the newer Eixample neighborhood. This "extension" is a planned neighborhood with a well planned grid of wide, tree-lined streets, parks and more modern buildings.
Home and to bed around 1:00am. These late dinners make for late mornings!
Tomorrow: Gaudi sights including Parc Guell and Casa Mila, then the cathedral and dinner in the Born neighborhood, and home to pack for France!
